National standards vs. state regulations:

Child care rules and regulations vary from state to state. If your child care program is licensed, they should be observing your state’s regulations. However, not all state’s regulations meet the health and safety standards set by national health and safety experts and outlined here.

In some states, Family Home Caregivers may not be required to be "licensed". However, they may be required to be "certified" or "registered" which is a less strict form of regulation. Check with your state child care licensing agency for the specific requirements in your state. See State Child Care Licensing Database, and click on your state.

Can all caregivers meet these standards?

There is additional cost involved in implementing some of these standards; don’t assume that your child care program has merely chosen to ignore them. They will need your support in order to improve health and safety in their child care programs
